HOW IT WORKS

POST A ONE-OFF RIDE

POST A REGULAR CARPOOL

BROWSE THE EXISTING LISTINGS

WELCOME

Welcome to the Golden Bay Carpool Website - a place where we can share rides and help save the planet together!  (Well...  the part of the planet we live in, anyway!)

This is an experiment in changing attitudes to personal travel.

Consider this: If we take 4 people in our car instead of just 1, we are effectively reducing our car's fuel consumption by a factor of 4.  (It also means that 3 other cars are not on the road, which has to be a good thing!)

This website is complementary to Derry's wonderful Petrol-Saving scheme, (where we sit on a designated seat and wait for a ride).  The website is just a little more formal, because the ride is arranged beforehand.   (Some people might prefer the security of knowing that someone will almost certainly come along to pick us up!)  The down side is that we need to be a bit more organised, and work out our travel arrangements a day or two in advance...

Ok, so let's all sit down and think about where we may be going in the next week or so, and FILL IN THE FORMS! - it's fun!  (Why not do it EVERY week?)

THIS IS HOW IT WORKS:

If you're going somewhere and you'd like to share the ride with someone else, just fill in the appropriate FORM.

There are two different Forms:

-    ONE-OFF RIDE FORM   for a one-off trip to town, to the beach, over the hill, etc.

-    CARPOOL FORM   for the trips you do regularly e.g. every Monday (to work, etc.)

In each case you can either OFFER a Ride/Carpool, or REQUEST one.   Details of your Ride/Carpool will list automatically on this website in the LISTINGS below.  (Note that
your E-Mail and the Birthday you give will NOT be listed!)

This website is updated once a day (between 3pm and 4pm) so you may need to wait until tomorrow to see your posting.

If you look at the listings and find that someone is going your way, please phone them and arrange the ride.

When you've filled your car, or found a ride, please REMOVE your listing from the website by filling in just the YELLOW section of the RIDE or CARPOOL form.  (You'll need to know the BIRTHDAY you supplied when you made the listing, in order to remove it.  This is to prevent vandals from removing all the listings!)  One-Off Rides will disappear automatically when their date passes.

There is an expectation that the passengers will contribute around $1.00  per 10k of travel.  This is NOT a payment for the ride, merely a voluntary contribution towards petrol costs.   (You can just pop it in the glovebox or leave it with the parking-meter money if you like...)

"The need is not really for more brains, the need is now for a gentler, a more tolerant people than those who won us against the ice, the tiger, and the bear.  The hand that hefted the axe, out of some blind allegiance to the past, holds the machine gun lovingly.  It is a habit man will have to break to survive, but the roots go very deep."
